Is It Possible To Cure Vitiligo With Home Remedies?

Although the results for vitiligo with these natural remedies may take a while to show, we make sure they do not contain harsh chemicals that can cause negative skin reactions.

Vitiligo is a skin disease caused by an imbalance in the immune system. The cells responsible for skin pigmentation are destroyed as if they were pathogens.

It is characterized by the appearance of white patches or areas of skin without pigment. In this article we will tell you about home remedies to help treat the disease;

What to know about vitiligo?

This skin disease can appear at any time in life, but most patients with genetic predisposition begin to see symptoms before the age of 20 years.

It is manifested by the  appearance of white or light marks or lesions on different parts of the body. These patches can expand or remain the same size. They usually appear on both sides of the body.

It is worth mentioning that, with vitiligo, the texture of the skin does not change and that it is not contagious. The consequences of this condition are related to the aesthetic and the psychological.

In almost half of the cases,  the genetic predisposition to develop vitiligo is hereditary,  although for it to be triggered there must be a factor such as, for example, a hormonal change, stress or a very serious problem.

There are two types of vitiligo:

Symmetrical

It is the most prevalent and is characterized by depigmented lesions on both sides of the body, in similar areas. This type of vitiligo mainly affects:

  • Face
  • fingers
  • Armpits
  • knees
  • Pubis

There is a tendency for lesions to appear in these areas due to the fact that there are “limits” there between two types of skin, for example, the eyelids, the edge of the lips, the ears, etc.

segmented

It is less frequent and appears only on one side of the body. Soon after the development of one or more spots, the disease progresses for a few months (maximum 6) and stabilizes. Only a very low portion of patients have a relapse or expansion after this period.

Home Remedies to Treat Vitiligo

Although  there are no medical cures for vitiligo,  some natural recipes can help reduce blemishes or prevent lack of pigmentation from being so noticeable.

Among the foods that can be useful to treat this disease we find:

Cucumber

It is packed with vitamins B and C and  is known for its moisturizing properties for the skin  (which is why it is present in many beauty treatments).

It serves to lighten the dermis, reduce wrinkles, smooth sensitive skin and balance greasy skin. It is also recommended for psoriasis and vitiligo.

Basil

It is a wonderful remedy to cure vitiligo, as it progressively eliminates skin blemishes. This is due to the fact that  the plant’s leaves stimulate the production of melanin  in the skin and therefore balance the natural color.

To increase the effects of basil it is recommended to mix it with lemon juice. Results can take several months to appear.

Kiwi

Due to its properties and nutritional contents, the kiwi is an excellent option to treat this disease. For this, you  must include it in your daily diet.

You can have it for breakfast, mid-morning or as a dessert after lunch or dinner. Because it is so rich, it can be taken as a vitamin along with other fruits.

Kiwi fruit increases the body’s defenses and allows the immune system to work better. This means that it will no longer attack pigment-creating cells.

strawberries

As vitiligo is caused by a weakened immune system, you need to consume foods that strengthen your defenses, such as strawberries.

This delicious little fruit offers many vitamins, including those from the C group, known for their antiviral and antibacterial properties. That’s why we recommend that you eat strawberries several times a week.

Chickpea

This rich vegetable has many amino acids and vitamins to stop the destruction of cells responsible for skin pigmentation. Furthermore, it  increases the production of melanin.

You can consume chickpeas in various dishes, such as the well-known “humus” (Arabic puree) or in soups, and stews.
