There are many factors such as the weather, dryers, paints, fixative products, stress and poor nutrition that damage the hair structure and, therefore, it is necessary to use nourishing masks regularly. However, we have a more natural and economical option, which are vegetable oils.

Each will contribute its own specific benefits, but all will nourish the hair and also avoid the use of other artificial products.

These vegetable oils are suitable for people who have dry or brittle hair, or to nourish it after the summer or at certain times.

People with oily hair should avoid them, being able to use them only on the ends of the hair, if they are dry and double, always avoiding the scalp.

Sesame vegetable oils

Hindus use sesame vegetable oils a lot to massage the body and hair, and in this second case it helps to prevent baldness and dandruff.

It is quite oily, so it should be used to massage the entire hair and scalp only in cases of dry hair. This oil is highly antioxidant, rich in vitamins and minerals, as well as having antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.

Linseed oil

The content of omega 3 fatty acids in flaxseed oil cares for and hydrates the hair deeply, and for this reason, in addition to consuming it, it is possible to apply it topically. Flaxseed also contains vitamin E, mucilage, protein and iodine, among other components.

It doesn’t have a very greasy texture, so it can be applied to all hair types. We recommend it especially for tips that tend to break or “cock up”.

Almond oil

Almond vegetable oils are one of the best known and most used, and one of the reasons is their low value;  however, it has fewer properties.

It is ideal for especially dry and brittle hair, to give it softness and to reduce volume and frizz.

neem oil

Neem vegetable oils are not as well known as the above and yet they have very potent hair health properties. This tree of Hindu origin was traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine with great success.

In addition, it is increasingly found in natural food and herbal stores. This oil contains plant sterols and essential fatty acids such as omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9; as well as Azadiractin, a limonoid that is especially beneficial and antibacterial.

Neem will help treat dryness, itchiness, dandruff, psoriasis, hair loss, head lice, etc.

Coconut oil

Virgin coconut oil, with its delicious aroma and its delicate texture, is the secret of many women in India to keep their hair beautiful and healthy.

It is possible to apply it to the hair and scalp before washing, massaging well so that it penetrates deeply. It will be very useful in cases of dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis or itching in general, as it has antibacterial properties.

If you happen to have very oily hair, you can follow the same procedure, but using coconut milk.

How to apply?

Apply the chosen oil on dry hair from half of the hair to the ends. Wrap the hair with PVC film or a towel and let it act for at least half an hour. You can also leave it overnight. Then wash your hair as usual.

Those with split ends can also apply a few drops after washing. And for those who have very dry and dull hair, we recommend putting two or three drops in the palm of your hand, rubbing them and spreading them well between your two hands; then comb and massage throughout the hair.

Another option for people who have hair prone to the appearance of oiliness is to mix, in equal parts, the oil with natural aloe gel.

This natural mask is not so oily, but it allows you to hydrate and nourish your hair well.

Oils can also be added to masks, shampoos or natural paints such as henna-based ones.
