3 Secrets Of Ancient Wisdom To Be Happier

Despite all the advances we currently have, to be happy just take into account the ancient wisdom, as it has more than valuable teachings.

Much of the advice we are given today to make us happier is nothing new, but comes from ancient wisdom.

A wisdom that, curiously, we continue to bring to the current world, because we didn’t know how to internalize everything that it can transmit to us.

Now, here in our space, let’s unveil 3 secrets of ancient wisdom that would be very important for us to put into practice today.

It’s just that if sages do these things, there must be motives, right?

Secrets of ancient wisdom to be happier

1. Control only what you can control and ignore the rest

The first of the secrets of ancient wisdom is very important, as we often want to control things that are not within our reach.

Faced with a problem that plagues us, a concern that keeps us awake, we need to ask ourselves if we can do something about it.

The Stoics already said: “Can I do something about this problem? If I can, then I will act; if I cannot do anything, then I will accept it”.

However, we never act in this wise way. Time and again we hit the same rock, we wear ourselves out, undermining our self-esteem and becoming anxious.

We can’t always control everything, because there are things that just happen, and that’s normal. Taking this on will free us from a heavy load, as we sometimes want to take responsibility for things we can’t.

This, at times, is the result of some fear, insecurities or any other problem that prevents us from letting go.

We need to allow ourselves to flow, accept and not become so obsessed with what we know we can’t control. The best happens when we learn to let go of that control.

2. Accept and stop denying

Accepting is one of the hardest things in our lives,  because it sometimes means letting go of the victim role.

When we don’t accept an illness, a situation or a period of our life that is not going well, we start to deny what happens and we rebel against it.

This situation is as absurd as seeing it raining and denying or rebelling against it over and over. Do we gain something from this? Can we change the situation? The answer is “no”, where our only option is to accept what is happening.

Why is this negotiation taking place in the face of reality? Due to our expectations of what we consider good luck and bad luck.

All of this leads us to suffering and putting into practice a resistance that will be useless. We are not victims, the world is not against us. Things just happen.

We need to accept what is not in our hands and we cannot change. To do otherwise, according to the Stoics, is to waste a great deal of our energy.

3. You are responsible for your life

The third of the secrets of ancient wisdom is very important in eliminating guilt from our lives.

We tend to blame our parents for the bad things that happen to us, but now we’re adults!

As Seneca said: “We say that we do not choose our parents, that they were given to us by chance, but  we can choose what kind of children we want to be ”.

Looking back and bemoaning everything that’s happened won’t do us any good. It is a way of making excuses for our passivity to do something in the face of all the difficulties that are plaguing us right now.

However, we are adults,  we have the power to resort to a different path than our parents traced. Now we are responsible for our lives, no one else.

And what do we want to do?

Today is the day to start letting go of control of what we cannot resolve, to accept situations as they are and to start taking charge of our lives.

Falling into obsession, denial and guilt will only bring us unhappiness.
